HYDRONIC AIR HANDLERS

Thermo Pride’s Hydronic Air Handler is designed to provide complete comfort, whether you require central or zoned heating, cooling or both. For heating, an optional hydronic coil is installed in the Hydronic Air Handler and attached to a hot water heater or boiler. With the Hydronic Air Handler and a hydronic coil, you can enjoy a warm and very comfortable temperature rise approaching 70-degrees. This means that the air handler is capable of supplying warmer air to your home than most furnaces on the market today. In addition, the air handler requires only a fraction of the space, investment, and cost of operation compared to most furnaces and heat pumps. The Hydronic Air Handler provides an affordable solution for converting from electric to oil or gas heat. By using your existing oil or gas water heater with Thermo Pride’s Hydronic Air Handler, you will enjoy a very quick payback.

Thermo Pride’s Hydronic Air Handler also allows air conditioning to be added to your home. Thermo Pride’s optional indoor coil easily fits in the Hydronic Air Handler and provides cool comfortable air, and eliminates unwanted indoor humidity. Matched with Thermo Pride’s outdoor air conditioner you will have an extremely efficient, quiet, and reliable full comfort system.

DEPENDABLE AND ECONOMICAL OPERATION

When your water heater or boiler is connected to a hydronic coil inside a Thermo Pride Hydronic Air Handler, water heater or boiler standby losses are reduced because the system is operated more frequently. Further, by circulating water through the water heater or boiler more frequently, sediment build-up is reduced, corrosion is minimized, and the life of the water heater or boiler is extended. Finally, Thermo Pride’s Hydronic Air Handler often costs less than furnaces or heat pumps to install, operate, and service.

Thermo Pride’s central air conditioners integrate with the Hydronic Air Handler to provide cool, dry air throughout your home. Central air conditioners are split systems, which means they have both an outdoor condenser and an indoor coil that fits inside the Hydronic Air Handler. Your dealer will match these parts so your system will operate at optimum efficiency and comfort.

SPACE EFFICIENCY

The Hydronic Air Handler is ideal in locations where space is limited, because its size is smaller than many furnaces. This is one reason why many heating and cooling contractors, architects, and residents of low-rise apartments, condominiums, and houses now prefer this type of system. It is also ideally sized for zoning applications where temperatures in different sections of a home can be separately maintained.

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

The Hydronic Air Handler can be used to supply heating and air conditioning and easily adapts to Thermo Pride’s electronic air cleaning and humidification accessories. Over a million Hydronic Air Handlers have been installed in single family homes, multifamily housing complexes such as apartments and condominiums, and mobile homes, in both the United States and Canada.

The Hydronic Air Handler is the ideal choice for zoning and for heating or cooling add-on rooms in your home. In some homes, it may not be possible for one thermostat to provide the ideal comfort level in every room. What is comfortable for the bedroom may be uncomfortable in the living room. By using the Hydronic Air Handler to zone an area in your home, you can have complete comfort, all the time, while using less energy. By heating or cooling only those rooms being used, you will help pay for the Hydronic Air Handler while enjoying quiet, reliable comfort.

PRODUCT ATTRIBUTES

  • Heavy gauge steel used in the construction of the cabinet. This provides for long lasting quality and durability.
  • Traditional Thermo Pride interlocking steel casings provides rigidity, insures tight joints, allows quiet operation, and reduces heat loss.
  • Painted baked enamel components and cabinet parts to resist corrosion. Parts are painted after fabrication – no pre-painted metals used -- to eliminate exposed metal edges.
  • Foil faced insulation to reduce annoying noise levels, improve efficiencies and prevent cabinet condensation.
  • Blowers sized to quietly and efficiently circulate household air. The direct drive, four-speed blower motor provides a selection of air volumes to match most applications. Motor speeds may be selected via a quick connect terminal.
  • Slide-out blower assemblies for easy and quick service.
  • Hydronic heating coils offer four copper tubing rows, for greater heat transfer. Many competitors use only three row coils.
  • Rifled tube aluminum fin air conditioning evaporator coils that produce high performance ratings and provide long-lasting quality.
  • Hydronic Air Handlers are capable of bottom return air in the upflow position, and right or left return air in the horizontal position.
  • Horizontal drain pan to facilitate the removal of air conditioning condensate.
  • The ability to approach a comfortable 70-degree heating temperature rise (at 180° entering water temperature) to provide warmer air than many furnaces on the market.

HOW THE HYDRONIC AIR HANDLER OPERATES

For heating applications, either a boiler or a hot water heater is connected to a slide-in hydronic-heating coil by two copper pipes which transfers water between the two units. When space heating is required, the wall thermostat in the home activates a small pump which transfers the water from the water heater or boiler to the hydronic coil. There, the hot water is circulated through a four row, copper tube aluminum fin coil. The Hydronic Air Handler’s quiet blower pulls return air from the home and forces it over the heated hydronic coil. Warm air is then transferred into your home through your duct system. The water in the Hydronic Air Handler is circulated back into the water heater or boiler for re-heating. During this process the water in the Hydronic Air Handler will generally lose 15 to 25 degrees before being returned to the hot water heater or boiler. Using 180 degree inlet water the hydronic heating coil comes up to temperature in about 5 seconds allowing fast delivery of warm air (for installations where the hot water source is remote from the hydronic air handler, coil warm up time will be slightly longer). In the cooling mode, refrigerant is circulated from the outdoor air conditioner through the cooling coil located in the air handler.

TAKE COMFORT IN THERMO PRIDE

When selecting the right comfort system for your home, you should consider comfort, efficiency, required maintenance, and longevity. The Hydronic Air Handler requires very little maintenance. Efficiency, longevity, worry free comfort are a few of the many qualities that we engineered into the Hydronic Air Handler. Further, we stand behind the Hydronic Air Handler with our leading Peace of Mind warranty. Our Peace of Mind Warranty covers the cooling coil and hydronic coil for 10-years and all other parts for 5-years.

Your Thermo Pride contractor's training and expertise sets him apart from others. When buying a heating or cooling system, selecting the right size system is extremely important. A unit that is too large costs more to buy and operate, while an undersized unit may not provide the desired comfort. By performing an analysis of your home’s heating and cooling needs, your dealer can recommend the right system to maximize your level of comfort and save you money.
